YOUTH EMPOWERMENT STRATEGIES & ADVOCACY

YES-ADVOCACY is a duly registered Community Based Organisation which is also Youth-affiliated body founded by like-minded young professionals hailing from one of the most marginalized community inhabiting the upper eastern province of today’s Marsabit county-Kenya.

Kenya is situated in the eastern part of Africa continent with mosaic cultural heritage of more than 42 tribes living in peace and harmony save for some few tribal clashes due to the scarcity of the resources.

 

As a country, Kenya pride itself as one of the true home or cradle of humanity due to numerous historical evidences and archeological sites that had shaped the world history when it comes to the origin of mankind scientifically. On top of this, Kenya is also among very few countries still with very rich wildlife culture thereby opening a floodgate of tourism from all over the globe who had longed to see the big five i.e. elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and all walks of other animal species at one glance and close proximity.

Beside these brighter side and many more, Kenya is still facing rapid climatically related challenges that has reduced large percentages of its land mass into arid and semi-arid.

​

Marsabit County where this organisation is situated is the largest, poorest and most expansive county in Kenya occupied by cosmopolitan nomadic pastoralist communities whose sources of livelihood revolves exclusively around their livestock since time immemorial. Nowadays following constant and persistent year in year out drought precipitated by sudden climatic changes and fast encroaching desertification, most of this nomads cattle had been swept away forcing them to increasingly rely on the relief agencies for help something that is culturally repugnant to this people.

 

It was this turn of event that had showered them with myriads of both social and economic problems that is threatening and eating deep into their social fabrics of existence. Thus resulting into untold suffering, abject poverty, darkening ignorance and cocktail of all kind of diseases which stares right into the eyes of these people everyday reducing otherwise perfect sanctity of human life to mere meaningless or devoid living.

It was on this backdrop that this organization was conceived first as an idea then as community initiatives practical tools geared toward alleviation of poverty via Youth and Community empowerment approach for self-reliance and sustainability.

​

The surest way to empower Youth and community is through advocacy and the best recipe in advocacy is touching and changing lives via education. And that is why without any hesitation I will like to call upon you and at the same time invite all well-wishers, donor agencies and other humanitarians group to join, partner and journey with us in this noblest task of touching and saving a life of these forgotten people, far from the eyes of the world, who had been engulfed by clouds of despair and hopelessness which had culminated into local banditry, ethnic violence, cattle rustling and growing insecurity among many vices.

​

It is my conviction that whatever little we pull together can go a long way in improving the well-being of this society and fosters the spirit of brotherhood/sisterhood and concern that will earn us everlasting blessing and life satisfactions because there was no greater joy and blessing than living life for others.
